As I pin this post, we are at the brink of a New Year. So, what kind of year are you expecting or do you want 2022 to be for you? The New Year serves as a good time to make some assessments about your life. Do you like the direction your life is headed in, for instance? Or do you need to do some things differently this year, relative to last year?
Three Things to Bear in Mind for the New Year
The main objective of this post is to help inspire the right mindset for the New Year. Screwed up thinking is never an asset. Our chances of success are greatest when we view our goals from the proper perspective. So here are three things to bear in mind this New Year:
1. The year 2021 has bearing on 2022. I don’t know what kind of year 2021 has been for you. But good, bad or ugly, the year 2021 has serious implications on whom or what you will become in 2022. We say God is doing a new thing. But oftentimes, God is doing in your life what He has been doing in your life. The things you endured, even if they were borne of your unwise choices, have helped to shape you and prepare you for the New Year. We do well to embrace the lessons learned and the experiences of 2021 as we embark on our journey for 2022. Remember, past failures can be our greatest teacher.
2. God does not micromanage the affairs of our life. At times, we blame God out of ignorance. We think that if it happened, it must have been His will. Well, not everything that happens to us is the will of God or His doing. Preacher, are you saying that things can happen against God’s will? Yes, they happen every single day. Every time someone dies without accepting Christ, for instance, this is against the will of God. He is “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9, KJV).
The point is that God does not micromanage the affairs of our life. He shelters us from some things and allows us to endure others. But no matter where life finds you today, if you trust Him, He knows how to make even the bad things work together for your good.
3. You have something relevant to contribute to 2022. We are the salt of the earth and the light of this world (Matthew 5:13-14). That means God has equipped us to impact this world in positive ways. Accordingly, He has placed some things in you that you are to impart into this New Year. Don’t stand on the sideline and watch it pass you by. Don’t fear the opposition. Get in the game and leave your mark on this New Year that cannot be erased. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.
