Over the years, I have had my share of ankle and wrist injuries and sprains. In fact, I have a chronic condition with one of my ankles and feet that regularly requires joint support. My favorite aid for those kinds of problems is athletic tape. Just the mere compression it provides to the injured area makes it feel better.
Sports tape is important to the injured joint because it supports the joint after its function has been compromised by injury. Oftentimes an athlete will experience a hand, finger or ankle injury during the game. A common remedy is to wrap the joint with athletic tape so the player can continue to play, albeit not to full capacity.
Perhaps you have used athletic tape before. You know how effective it can be for providing support to a sprained ankle, or a hand or wrist that does not require more serious medical attention.
The Cost and Availability of Athletic Tape
The problem I have had with athletic tape, however, is that the cost of using it can add up over time. You may have a chronic condition that requires you to wrap a joint with sports tape often. Or an athletic child that seems to be prone to injury. That can make using sports tape expensive.
A couple of years ago, I went to a local Wal-Mart to buy some athletic tape for an ankle problem I had. I bought the last two rolls in the store. I figured I could get some more rolls at another Wal-Mart that was closer to me. But that store had none.
That has been an on-going problem for me—sports tape seems to not be kept in stock regularly.
The other problem is the cost. Have you ever gone to buy say 12 rolls of sports tape? Actually, the price of the ones I recently bought from Wal-Mart was not bad. A two-roll pack was $3.47 plus tax, or about $1.75 a roll. By contrast, I bought a single roll from Target for $4.45. That roll was the same size of one of the rolls in the two-pack from Wal-Mart.
I’m thinking a guy shouldn’t have to work that hard to find low-cost athletic tape in bulk. So, I decided to look online to see what was available. I found a great supply of low cost, self-adhesive sport tape made by COMOmed. Application is fast, self-adhesive and non-slip.
Benefits of Self-Adhesive Athletic Tape by COMOmed
In times past, I used the white sports tape that required under wrap. But I prefer the self-adhesive athletic tape by COMOmed for the following reasons:
- STRONG SELF-ADHESIVE: The COMOmed bandage is a strong self-adherent tape that offers excellent support. It will not slip, eliminating the need for frequent readjustments. Unlike non-adhesive bandages, self-adherent tape does not require clips and pins to stay in place. Material is water-resistant and will not easily come loose by sweat or water.
- ELASTIC AND COMFORTABLE: Stretchy fabric is soft, easy to wrap, and can be torn without scissors, making it practical to take with you anywhere. Use for sprains, swelling and soreness.
- LIGHTWEIGHT BREATHABLE MATERIAL: Porous fabric allows for ventilation so the skin can breathe underneath, which is good for the skin and better for healing. Made from natural rubber latex.
- WILL NOT PULL SKIN OR HAIRS: The cohesive property of the bandage means it will adhere very well to itself but poorly to other surfaces such as skin or hair making it pain-free to pull it off and change bandages.
- SET OF 6/12/24 ROLLS IN VARIOUS COLORS: Value pack. Each roll is individually poly bagged and measures 2 inches in width and 5 yards in length. Use to protect any body part; works well on ankle, wrist, finger, toe, elbow and knee.
