I believe most of us find it a daily challenge to juggle the many demands of life. We have more to do than we have time to do them all. That means we have to prioritize things in life.
So, let’s talk about priority. That word oftentimes is a subjective term. What one person regards as important, another person may not. A woman desperately looking for a husband, for instance, may make it a priority to gain the attention of men every time she leaves the house. For the woman who is already happily married, that would not be important.
But one thing that should be at the top of every Christian’s daily list is prayer. When Jesus was here on earth, He understood the importance of staying connected with the Father. At one instance, after He finished ministering to a multitude, He made time for prayer by sending the people and His disciples away.
“And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone” (Matthew 14:23, KJV).
Why Jesus Had to Make Time for Prayer
Some may argue that Jesus had no need to pray because He was divine. Those who make that argument say He only prayed to model the importance of prayer to His disciples. But let’s think about that. In the case referred to above, Jesus sent His disciples to get into a ship and go to the other side–before He prayed. He was not modeling prayer before His disciples. They were not even around to see Him pray. But Jesus prayed because He needed to pray.
Remember that Jesus did not minister as God while on earth. Rather, He took upon Him the form of a servant (Philippians 2:7). Accordingly, He depended on the Father’s help. It follows then that one of the reasons for the awesome success of His public ministry was His commitment to prayer. Through it, He communicated with the Father. The Father in turn worked mightily through Him.
For Jesus, time for prayer was not just sitting around. He was constantly about the Father’s business. Crowds were always following Him. But He made time for prayer. At times, that meant He had to send the crowd away. Prayer remained a priority during His public ministry.
Whether it’s due to ministry or the busyness of life, if you don’t have time for prayer, you are just too busy for God. To allow your life to remain in that mode is to trust in yourself to get things done. If this is you, it is time for a change. Place prayer at the top of your list. Invite God to be a part of your plans each day. This one strategic move can revolutionize your life.

Thank you Pastor Frank. I once heard a minister say “If you don’t have time to do what God tells you to do then you are wasting your time” We have been told to pray without ceasing. Thanks for sharing.

When I was young, they used to say in church, “Much prayer, much power; little prayer, little power; no prayer, no power.” That statement may not be 100% true, but there is a lot of truth in that saying.
