Think about all the Christian content that is readily available to us these days. Local churches rely on age-appropriate content for their Christian education objectives. Seminaries and Bible colleges need a vast supply of books and resources to accomplish their mission. Over the years, I have amassed a large supply of Christian content through formal education, conferences and books I have purchased to help me in the ministry.
I seldom go to the movies, but one I did attend and that stands out is the movie War Room in 2015. It is an excellent Christian movie. For its debut weekend, the movie grossed an estimated 11 million dollars.
All of these priceless resources are made possible by God’s army of producers and creators of Christian content.
Some time ago, I had dinner with a pastor who is a friend of mine. It was during the last week he would be living in my area. He had to move about 300 miles north to help take care of his ailing parents.
As we talked at dinner, the subject of what God might have for him with regard to ministry work came up. Pondering that subject, he thought about a number of possibilities. As for writing books, he said there was no need for him to do that because we have the Bible. His feeling was that Christian books can do no more than say what the Bible already says.
For some reason, the Holy Spirit did not quicken my spirit to help my minister friend see how misguided his thinking was. But I have thought about it since that day.
Why Christians Need Lots of Christian Content
Christians should have access to a variety of content just as the world does. But Christians need content to help them grow spiritually. That’s why we need producers like Alex and Stephen Kendrick to produce movies we are not ashamed to take our children to see. Christian bloggers to keep writing and updating their sites to keep us informed and inspired. And Christian songwriters to keep the music flowing.
My minister friend had it all wrong. Think about it. As for preachers, everything we preach should be based on what is already written in the Bible. So, should we not prepare sermons simply because what we will be talking about is already in the Bible? Nonsense. What else would God have us to preach but the Word of God?
The truth is that God blesses different people with different gifts. He blesses many of them with insights and abilities to take biblical concepts and present them in the form of songs, books, movies, blogs and other media to minister to the people of God. It is mindless to say that they should not do such work because it is based on what has already been written in the Bible.
I said all of that to say I that we should thank God for all those who devote their life to creating and producing Bible-based, Christian content. They should keep perfecting and using their gifts to bless the Kingdom of God.
