Before Jesus returned to heaven, He instructed His disciples to tarry in Jerusalem. They needed to become empowered from heaven (Luke 24:49). So, they tarried, and on the day of Pentecost, Jesus baptized them with the Holy Spirit.
This experience radically changed their lives. The disciples were no longer the fearful bunch hiding in a room as they were after Jesus was crucified. Instead, these men became bold, fearing no one.
On that very day of Pentecost, Peter preached his first sermon as an apostle. About 3000 souls accepted Christ as a result!
The Indispensability of the Anointing for Today
That was then and this is now. Since the day of the apostles, the fabric of our world has become increasingly complex. Some people feel that the Christian church today is not relevant to today’s world. Even in America, Christianity is no longer the faith of choice for the majority of its religious community.
I see nothing on the horizon that will stem the current tide. In fact, many of us who are Christian leaders perceive that there is a growing movement in America determined to marginalize the Christian church. But just as Christ anointed His apostles for such a time as they were called to minister in, so it is that the anointing upon us today is for such a time as now.
Why do I say that? Because Jesus has promised, “Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16:18, KJV). I say to you by the authority of these words, that no earthly power and no demonic arsenal can stamp out the church of God. When the going gets tough in the church, the tough in the church will get going. This will be the Lord’s doing, and it will be marvelous in our eyes.
Think about it; Jesus took 12 men under His wings. He poured Himself into them during His public ministry. Then He filled all but Judas with the Holy Ghost. He used these men to turn the world upside down (Acts 17:6).
These apostles met much opposition. Paul the apostle was imprisoned, whipped and left for dead. But the enemy could not stop what Paul and the other apostles were doing. God had specially anointed them for the opposition of their day.
God will do the same for us today. He is ready when we are. He is calling on the church to rise to the occasion. As we stand to take on the challenge to be a relevant voice in our world, the anointing upon us will equip us for such a time as this. Let us not fear. If God be for us, who can prevail against us?

I thank God for His anointing upon the lives of believers. Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
