“We know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28, KJV).
This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. What makes this verse so profound are the words “all things.”
Think about it. Christians are not a monolithic group who think alike and robotically follow a common script to a tee. Each of us is a unique creation, doing different things with our life. The various paths we walk may be as many as there are Christians in the world. But there is this one God in heaven who can make all things work together for good for all of us!
How much do you believe what this verse is saying? Can you trust God for a good outcome no matter how bad your situation looks? You don’t have to be able to see how things can turn in your favor. You just have to trust God. That’s the essence of faith. It is a conviction about things not seen (Hebrews 11:1, NASB).
Occasions to Trust God
They say much of what we worry about never happens. And when things look threatening, we tend to imagine the worst for an outcome. Perhaps some of you reading this post can relate to what I am saying because that’s human nature. But I say down with living in fear and dreading the worst. Those dark times occasion opportunities for us to trust God. He knows how to work on our behalf to make all things work together for our good.
The power of trusting God means so much to me as a church pastor. I have my share of those who come to church, turning to the Lord in desperation. They don’t know what to do. Though I care, I can do little if anything to resolve their pain and struggle. But I am glad I know the One who can. I confidently commend Him to the hearts of those in despair. Those who place their trust in Him shall not be ashamed.
So, where are you today in your life? Perhaps you are where I have been before. You feel so far from the place you once knew. You don’t know how to get back to that good place. The things you are doing to make your way back seem to only be making things worse. If you had to grade yourself on how you are doing, perhaps you would give yourself a failing grade.
Perhaps your self-assessment is correct. But here is the good news. For those who love the Lord, He knows how to make all of your struggles work together for good. But we must walk by faith and not by sight. So, love Him. Incline your heart to Him. And trust God for a good outcome, even when your situation seems bad.
