God has not called us to bear every load that life places upon us. Rather, He has given us a number of resources to help us bear the load of life. For instance, Jesus taught us how to pray to God. He also stressed the need for us to have faith in God. And He taught us to study His Word.
The goal of all these resources is to point us to God. If He intended for us to live life in our own strength, why did He give these helps to us? Of course, when we fail or refuse to utilize them in our daily life, we have in effect chosen to fully bear the load of life on our own.
But God has not made us to bear it all. Some of life’s loads are far too heavy for us to bear. That’s why He invites us to cast all of our cares or anxieties upon him” (1 Peter 5:7). Note, not some of our cares but all of them. The more we learn to live this way the easier life will be for us.
Letting God Help You Bear the Lord
A main reason many Christians feel overwhelmed and stressed out in life is because they try to carry loads they should commit to God. When we do that, we are no different from the world of unbelievers. They don’t have the divine help that God has given to us. But our having them and not using them is as if we do not have them.
So, what about you? Do you pray to God daily? Do you practice a life of living by faith in God? Do you read your Bible regularly with the intent of incorporating its teachings into your life? Your answers to these questions will say a lot about the load you will bear in life. The less you do these things, the more susceptible you will be to living life in a mode of overload.
Those of us in the ministry need to take heed as well. Our doing the work of the Lord does not exempt us from the focus of this post. If we are not careful, we can find ourselves trusting more in ourselves than in God to get ministry work done. I believe that is why some ministers become discouraged in the ministry.
The work God has called us to is much bigger than we are. We can’t bear the load alone. It is only through Him that we can succeed without feeling or becoming overwhelmed by the load of ministry.
I believe most people would agree that life today is increasingly more challenging than it used to be. According to a recent survey, seven in ten Americans are greatly concerned about inflation, followed by affordable health care (55%) and violent crime (54%).
The good news is that God has invited us to cast all of our cares upon Him because He cares for us. He does not want us to live life in a state of fear, stress or overload. Instead, He wants us to realize the victorious Christian life that Christ died for us to have. A vital key to realizing this objective is for us to learn to commit our cares and anxiety to the Lord.
