Do you ever doubt the fact that God fulfills His promises?
Sometimes, we are guilty of treating God as if He were a man. We may not realize that we are doing this even when we are. For instance, we may regard a situation as hopeless just because there appears to be no human solution to the problem at hand. But human limitations tell us absolutely nothing about God because He has no limitations.
These days, people’s words and promises often mean little or nothing. It’s not uncommon for someone to promise something that he or she can’t deliver on. Our politicians in Washington master this art of lies and deception. This reality breeds skepticism when we enter agreements with each other. Even the labels on our food products are deceptive in terms of the ingredients and nutritional benefits claimed. In short, our words can mean very little these days.
But we dare not group God in with the rest of us. He is not a man. He is in a class all by Himself. We can always trust Him. He never lies, and He is able to do according to all that He has promised.
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?”
Numbers 23:19, KJV
This verse makes a clear distinction between God and humanity. God fulfills His promises. He does not belong to the human race. His ways are immeasurably higher than ours. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are His ways higher than ours (Isaiah 55:9). He has means and resources at His disposal that we know not of. The things that are impossible with men are possible with God.
The Bible is filled with the promises of God. No matter what we face in life, God has relevant things to say about it in His Word. His promises speak to the challenges and problems in our life to the intent that we should place our trust in Him.
Of course, promises are no better than the one making the promises. To the extent that God is higher than men, so are His promises more trustworthy than ours. That’s why we should study the Word of God daily and build up our faith to trust Him in all circumstances. He is not a man that He should lie. He will never disappoint. He can and will fulfill His promises.
