What are your plans today? Got lots of errands to run? Is there a big project around the house that you are working around the clock trying to finish? Do you feel as though you always have more things to do than there are hours in a day? Believe me; you would not be alone on that one. Whatever your reality is, this is a reminder that your most important meeting today is your time alone with the Lord. Why? Because that one meeting has the power to positively impact your entire day.
It’s impossible to exaggerate how important it is for Christians to spend time alone with God each day through prayer and reading the Bible. This is how we edify ourselves and invite God into our day. In turn, it equips us to boldly face the challenges of our day. Moreover, through this spiritual discipline, some of our battles are won before they manifest themselves.
The psalmist reveals another reason why you should regard your meeting with God as your most important meeting. He writes, “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:6, KJV).
We seriously need God to direct our paths in this life. We can’t successfully navigate this crazy world on our own. Too many unknowns exist. By contrast, God is omniscient. He always knows the best way for us to take.
But first, we must acknowledge Him in all our ways. How do we do that? It involves more than simply praying to God. It means we must subject ourself to His Word as it applies to us.
Your Personal Commitment
In this post, I am stressing the importance of spending time alone with God each day. But the truth is that none of us lives in an ideal world. Being a minister of the gospel, I know how difficult it is some days to get that time alone with God. There are those days when I have so many things pulling on me at the same time. Occasionally, I must choose between what’s more important and what’s more urgent.
The question we should ask ourselves is what sacrifices are we willing to make so that our time alone with God is the most important meeting of our day? Our answer to that question reflects our appreciation—or the lack thereof–for personal prayer and Bible study. For those who truly know the incredible benefits of these spiritual disciplines, they will let nothing come before them.
Think about Jesus. During His public ministry, He ministered to multitudes wherever He went. Still, He made His time with God His most important meeting of the day. On at least one occasion, “He went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God” (Luke 6:12, KJV). That means He valued His time with God more than getting a good night’s sleep.
On another occasion, after Jesus had ministered to the people, He made preparations to be alone with God. He sent the disciples away. “And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray….” (Matthew 14:23, KJV). To be sure, His unyielding commitment to His time with the Father was the key to His phenomenal public ministry.
Life Is About Choices
None of us has unlimited time on our hands. We all have to make choices regarding the use of our time each day. What we choose to do and what we choose not to do reflect our priorities. Every Christian who wants to enjoy true fellowship with the Father must choose to make his personal time with God and His Word a top priority each day. What about you?

Thanks, Bisi. Sometimes, it’s easier said than done, but God first, no matter what.
